A few of our favorite things…
The Alameda County Law Library has many legal information resources available to the public. We also have experienced, professional law librarians to help guide patrons to lesser-known but highly valuable titles for guidance with legal procedures.
The following are two staff favorites. These titles are so popular, we keep them behind the Reference Desk. You can ask for them there. Neither title is available on the internet.
- The Registered Process Server’s Guide to Service of Process in California. 5th ed. Ref KFC 1004 .P75 K58 2019 A new edition of this title provides detailed discussion of the manner of service and suggestions for process serving activity. The appendix contains templates for a number of documents related to service of process – for example – “Order to Serve the Named and Unnamed Defendants by Posting and Certified Mail.”
- Recorders’ Document Reference and Indexing Manual: A Training and Reference Manual for State-Wide Recording and Indexing Personnel Ref KFC 826 .R43 2018 Quite a mouthful of a title. This is the CA County Recorders’ reference guide for which documents can and cannot be recorded in the official public records. It provides an index of document titles, samples of documents, requirements for recording, and a list of documents that may not be recorded.
